Excel Trucking has a remarkable history that spans over a decade, starting from humble beginnings in 2011. The company was founded by Abdulla Abdi, a driven entrepreneur who possessed a deep passion for logistics. The company started with a single owner-operator, one leased trailer, and a modest $5000 investment. It was a daunting task to run a trucking company with no financial resources or experience in logistics or business management. However, driven by an unwavering determination, Abdulla refused to accept failure as an option.

In 2014, a turning point occurred when Abdulla joined forces with his cousin, Sharmarke Ahmed, who brought invaluable expertise in sales to the table. With a shared vision and a relentless pursuit of excellence, we targeted shippers and freight forwarders that needed reliability and on time service, igniting growth of Excel Trucking.

Today, after many years of ups and downs in the trucking industry, Excel continues to offer reliability and punctual service to our customers. The company operates out of Grove City, Ohio and maintains a fleet of 100 power units, 250 trailers, and over 150 drivers and employees.

Abdulla Abdi

Founder and Chairman

Abdulla is the founder of Excel Trucking and has served as a CEO from 2011 to 2022 and is currently serving as a chairman. Abdulla’s responsibilities include overseeing and directing the company's overall operations, setting strategic goals, risk management and compliance, financial oversight, and providing leadership to the executive team. Abdulla exhibits a strong passion for driving technological advancements within the trucking industry.

He is deeply committed to exploring and implementing innovative solutions that can enhance efficiency, sustainability, and safety in transportation operations. He has a bachelor of science degree from Ohio State University and is currently pursuing MBA in Logistics at Ohio University.

Sharmarke Ahmed

William Ferrell

VP of Operations

Will embarked on his transportation career in 1999, initially joining Eagle Global Logistics (CEVA). During his five-year tenure at Eagle, he held various roles such as Dock Worker, Dispatcher, Load Planner, and Dock Supervisor. Following this, he transitioned to Forward Air, where he dedicated 16 years of service, assuming a diverse range of positions, including Freight Broker, Carrier Manager, Fleet Operations Manager, Fleet Director, and Director of Brokerage Operations & Sales.
Throughout his career, Will's unwavering commitment has been to our people. He emphasizes the importance of training, cross-training, ongoing development, and mentorship as vital components in fostering a dynamic and thriving company culture.

Amber Northcutt

Director of Human Resources

In 2018, Amber commenced her career at Excel Trucking, beginning as a recruiter. Over the years, she has consistently demonstrated her adaptability and unwavering commitment by making significant contributions to various departments, including safety and compliance. Before joining Excel, Amber had amassed over a decade of invaluable experience in the HR field.

Today, Amber holds the esteemed position of HR Director at Excel Trucking. She tirelessly strives to foster a strong sense of unity and belonging among everyone associated with Excel, whether they are contractors or employees. Her dedicated efforts also focus on encouraging the embrace of our rich and diverse culture throughout the organization.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources from Franklin University.
